I worked for homeless shelters, and knew people who'd been homeless and were able to come back to a home-based life again. (I also had a great-uncle who was homeless half his later life, because he was hit in the head by shrapnel in WW 1, and never fully recovered). Your image captures the "I don't exist" feeling that many of these people feel, in the outside world; and the 'fade' you used (on their faces) suggests they have faces, but veil them the minute they see a man with a sign and cup. More powerful work from you...and the guy with the bowler-hat and striped suit really brings the point home...

Thank you. Yes, unfortunately, many people are like that—they simply tune out what they don't want to see. A homeless person quickly becomes just part of the street scene, and the crowd turns into a faceless mass. In this way, everyone becomes invisible to one another, in a sense.

When you are down there on the ground and feeling without much hope...the entire world walking among you must feel faceless and uninterested in your plight. It's a sad reality of this world we all live in and I am a bit guilty of that myself!

We have become so focused on everyone trying to scam us for the purpose of taking our money, that in defense we tune out all persons asking for money, even when they need it the most! Such is the world we all live in...sadly, one day we may be the one asking for help from strangers, while we sit on the ground and look up at faceless people passing us by! :(

True, Johnny. But as you say—there are a few bad apples and, unfortunately—what’s even worse—too many people who need help. Sadly, you can’t help everyone, but sometimes you can at least save someone’s day. Even if it’s just for a day...

Strangely, what most reminds me of this is walking the streets in Manhattan during holidays, pushing through a sea of pedestrians -- thousands of them -- all faceless strangers with no personal interaction.

This faceless virus can take many forms, I think.

We live in an uncaring world.
