Here's a sneak peek at my latest set to be released somewhere in late August/early September. "Snakes of the World v3" adds 8 new snakes to the Nature Wonders library including several favorites such as the Water Moccasin/Cottonmouth, Eastern Diamondback, Timber Rattlesnake, Aesculapian Snake, Rainbow Snake and more. The Water Moccasin (aka "Cottonmouth") is found in the eastern United States from the Great Dismal Swamp in southeast Virginia, south through the Florida peninsula and west to Arkansas, eastern and southern Oklahoma, and western and southern Georgia (excluding Lake Lanier and Lake Allatoona. It is usually associated with bodies of water, such as creeks, streams, marshes, swamps, and the shores of ponds and lakes. This species has a unique swimming pattern and appears to be floating on top of the water rather than swimming with its body beneath the surface. Its diet includes mammals, birds, amphibians, fish, eggs, insects, other snakes, small turtles, and juvenile alligators. Cannibalism has also been reported. Their bites have a powerful cytotoxic venom that destroys tissue. Although deaths are rare, the bite can leave scars, and on occasion, require amputation. Absent an allergic reaction in the bitten individual, the venom does not cause the common systemic reactions that occur with most rattlesnake species bites.
