Description
Like most people buying 3D content for Poser or DAZ Studio I love my Stonemason sets. However I also like my renders to always have my own touches, so I consider it almost essential to customise even these excellent sets. Since I use all my 3D content nowadays in Blender there is a massive array of 3D modelling capabilities available so it isn't usually too difficult to put my own mark on things.
With that preamble out of the way here's my new version of Stonemason's Galaxy Diner, showing the two most major alterations. As you can see I replaced all the English text with my own "Galactic Standard" fonts. When I began I thought this was going to be a very time-consuming and tedious task but thanks to the way the set is designed and textured it was all done in less than an hour. All the menus, prints and signs appear on just two texture maps, so I loaded those into Affinity Photo and painted over the existing text to erase it, then added my own with my Galactic Standard OpenType fonts. The 3D neon-style lighting was easily done with Blender's 3D text modelling.
Finally I decided that I wanted the place to be bigger as well. This idea came from the modular way that Stonemason built the set, with the centre section being two duplicated modules; all I had to do was duplicate and position one of these two more times, move the front of the building forward to match and I had a bigger space to work in. Duplicate the tables and their contents a few times and make sure that the table contents were not arranged exactly the same on each new table and the job was nearly done. As I had increased the table count from seven to fifteen I reworked the table number cards too. Since only I can read the Galactic Standard text nobody but me would be likely to notice if I didn't, but I did it anyway because I like to always do a good job of whatever I am doing.
I do recommend this kind of thing, it's sometimes a lot of work but it is very satisfying and adds another personal touch to your renders. It is also a lot less work than making stuff from scratch, which I also do sometimes.
Renders of the customised interior will follow.
