Hot Chocolate ============== It was the end of the financial year and bonuses were about to be given out for those who worked at my employers who did good at their work . I have been there for 10 years, worked my way up from office boy to a senior executive. Unlike my colleagues at work, I didn't show off my success. I work respectable clothing, nothing flashy .. I lived in nice quiet neighbour, where kids played in the streets when there was no cars around. My home was 2 level fixer-upper that I partly fixed up and paid others do stuff that was beyond my skill level or were unqualified to do. I even went on public transport at times as it saved on gas and driving into the city where my workplace was can be chaotic at times, else I drove my old but reliable Mazda that I got 6 years ago.. While My colleagues live in High Condos at top levels of Trendy area, drove sports cars, wore expensive watches, rings or other jewellery. Then the day came, and my colleagues and we all got a huge bonus as we told, the company has gain more clients and business thanks to our hard work.. My colleagues talked about taking an expensive sea holiday to the Bahamas, getting a new luxury car, getting more expensive jewellery.. Normally I would not splurge but I felt it was time, after 10 long years of grinding my way up to where I am now. When I was a child, I had favourite toy car , a Ferrari.. I kept over the years, as a promise to myself that when I grew up and did well, I would get 1 if I could. This old small toy was on my desk in my office. Later on I bought a larger model of the same car and put on the shelf behind my chair in my office. I never told my colleagues of my dreams to get 1.. They always thought of me as the quiet 1, hard worker but nothing exciting about me but helpful at times at work. This I didn't mind, as I came from a humble background and upbringings, that showed me that one doesn't have to boast or show-off . I thought I treat myself and might give my associates a surprise in the process. So next week, at lunch with some others from work, at a restaurant not far from work, that some other said - lets celebrate our bonuses with a nice lunch. So someone booked for our group and we all had agreed to pay separately as we all could afford our food and more.. So the group got talking about what they did or will do with their bonuses.. One said : I am going to my wife to Japan , she always been fascinated by Japanese culture . Another said I am going to Maldives to enjoy the tropics and swim in the tropical waters with my girlfriend and propose to her. Other said - I am going to get a Mercedes-Benz Mobile home and next summer drive around the country with my family .. They asked me - :" What will you get or use with your bonus ? " - expecting to get another model car or something basic like I did before… I ask said , quietly : " I just got a nice hot chocolate " They all laughed … We ate out lunch.. Mine was nice big chicken Maryland with roast potatoes and salad. We went back to work. The day went smoothly and the end of work-day came.. Then we all went done to the underground car park where we had all parked.. I went to my new car, picked the unlock button on my remote, started it up.. My colleagues who watched me get into my car , suddenly froze, their mouths open, like stunned fish..
