She said she wanted to wait alone and that she was happy to sit in the dark, while I know she probably isn't lying but deep down I know that she doesn't really mean it, not truly. To most people she just seems like a violent savage, purposed to kill and nothing more but that's not really true. It was tough when I first met her, she stands her ground and doesn't give much away, but I grew to like it and she grew to trust me enough to show me who she really is and, well, she's quite a bit more complicated than people realise. Hanukan lore is strange and far more complex than anyone realised and well, that's why she waits up on Christmas eve, ready for the thief to come back and betray her trust again but just a look at the twinkle in her eye told me that while she said she wanted to wait for him alone, that wasn't really what she wanted at all. At first she tried to push me away but a little determination and she soon crumbled, at first slowly but then as the warmth she tried to hide started seeping out she caved and the anger subsided as the twinkle of belief in the impossible glistened in the firelight. It's just like the first time we met and she tried to push me away when I hugged her for the first time, but once the warming tingle of a true embrace took over she willingly reciprocated, most people won't break that boundary and to get to her, that's exactly what you have to do, you go to her, she doesn't come to you. It took a little time for her to calm but once she did and she forgot the ruse, the true reason she waits glistened in her eyes, she still believes in him and the magic that comes with him. Neither of us will see midnight, let alone the moment he comes but no matter how long we wait, we will wait together and I will wait with her, beside her, with her heart in mine and her hopes in kind. We share something in common too, and while we may be born of very different worlds, we both will wait for him with the same dream in mind. People may never understand but we are not just friends but partners and without each other, we would have nothing in the first place. In front of the fire we will sit watching and waiting for the magic of our first Christmas as partners and best friends.
