Ute, I've seen all your posts---I just haven't commented anywhere because of health matters, a few surgeries, etc. But I was stunned and saddened to hear that you're stepping down here. I appreciate how hard it has been for you---all your health issues, the struggles, age (I'm 76, so I understand), and so on. You have to know that you have been one of the beacons of light to this site, and your absence will remove a very big sun from the sky. I'm sorry my life has taken me away from here since July, I was exhausted much of the time. But there was always an amazing joy in coming to your work, even when I wasn't commenting anymore, and seeing your constant magic, all the varieties of your imagination, your portraits of love and magic, and theater, and music, and urban and rural life, and the magic of times past right alongside times present...I know your life has brought you several huge losses, and I always felt you had courage to keep creating beauty and sharing it with the world, even as health was intruding right and left. I am eternally grateful for having been witness to your prodiggious light and delight, and it's been my joy and privilege to share it openly whenever I've been here. I'm only commenting on one image per gallery this morning, but just know I've not missed your uploads. I send my gratitude and hugs for all you've shared here for so long. It's a huge cornucopia of joy, inspiration, love, magic, and on and on and on. Your offerings are a jewel.

I chose this image, among your recent images, because it's for Christmas, and because it's joyous. I love the buildings in the background, tilting as if they were bowing to Santa Claus. And the old lanterns, and the people on each side---actually, it looks like you have more santas on each side (if you do, I love it).

But your main santa is a modern guy---he looks like Ben Stiller, the actor! You may not have intended that, but he does look very modern. I love the vest and open coat, and very sweet and open face. And the light bathes him from behind.

I want to wish you a wonderful birthday (tomorrow---I had to comment today because tomorrow I have medical procedures). As I'm 76, I know what age does to us. We work hard to stay young, but age just pounds away. I am sorry you've had to battle so many health issues, but I wish you all the best in everything, Ute, I wish you a blessed birthday, and I send you love and hugs for your birthday and for your Christmas and New Year, as well as for you, your health, your life, and all the blessings you've given us here. I'm a richer person because of all you've given, and I thank you deeply. (You'll always be welcome if you drop-in once in a while.) The light you've given here will always be a beacon.
