Description
Hearings were held in the United States and Great Britain which led to law and regulation changes to prevent future maritime disasters.
The changes:
1) All ships crossing the North Atlantic had to take a more southerly route and be equipped with searchlights
2) 24 hour radio watches became mandatory for those with 50 passengers or more
3) A special radio frequency was made exclusive for ships at sea
4) Ships were to have enough lifeboats for everyone on board
5) Regular lifeboat drills had to be conducted
In 1914, the International Ice Patrol was formed. Since then, no lives have been lost in monitored areas due to iceberg collisions.
