I am a Lapidary artist. Lapidary is the process of cutting, shaping by grinding, and polishing gemstones. In addition, I have created my own art form - "backlit pendants". I find natural gemstone material, select portions of it to form into 40mm x 30mm oval pendants which I then backlight with battery powered LED lights to reveal and "illuminated" the inner beauty of the stones. From these, I have created a second art form . . . color adjusted USB microscopic images from down in the stone (of an area about 5 mm square) and select features down in the stone to orient and adjust, using the software that comes with my USB microscope, to adjust the color, brightness, contrast, sharpness, color saturation, and color temperature of the image, including in some cases using a filter that reverses the colors to their complement colors (what was yellow becomes blue, what was white, becomes black, etc). I call these images simply "Rock Art". When I post these images on lapidary websites, I usually ask people "What do you see?" I like to call that process of seeing things in natural are (like images in clouds) "Rock Rorschach". So I will capture numerous images down in the rock with my USB microscope using a wide variety of colors and adjustments. In this case, although the gemstone material is called Green Moss Agate with Golden Globes 01, there are no green or gold colors in this variation of the image. Occasionally, I will use Photoshop or ACDSee to make additional adjustments to the image, but not AI.
