Taking America Back Into Space – “AGAIN” It is the book that was never intended to be, but the book which came to be. I never intended for my first work of fiction "ABIS – America Back Into Space", to have a follow on. The plan was to simply run with the idea of how to take America Back Into Space after the end of the space shuttle programme in literary and artwork format on a journey which took America firstly back into space into Earth orbit and from there on a close fly-by mission to the planet Venus, then onwards to Mars for the creation on the Martian surface of the first scientific colony base. But when in the space, no pun intended, of a few short weeks I saw not one but two articles in various media outlets about the use of Helium-3 (H-3) as an energy source, and how an abundant source of Helium-3 lay trapped within the Lunar surface, and how in theory one ton of processed Helium-3 had the potential to supply the energy needs of a city the size of New York for a month, then the idea for taking America Back Into Space once again put in an appearance and the story started to develop. Its been an interesting experience for me from a research point of view as whilst the idea of using Helium-3 as a power source does in the first instance appear to have great potential, the maths, including the cost involved for extracting H-3 from the Lunar soil, or regolith, are simply staggering, and whilst it does make for an interesting work of fiction, a work of fiction which is backed-up once again by nearly 500 pieces of artwork which I created to support the story, I feel after looking closely at what would be involved from an engineering standpoint that it will be many years, if at all, before the abundant source of Helium-3 which lies trapped on the Lunar surface is harvested for its energy potential.” Now this work will join my other literary efforts on sale on the Amazon website, my autobiography “From Coal Miner to Astronaut – A Life Less Ordinary”, the follow on to my autobiography “An American Adventure”, and my works of fiction “ABIS – America Back Into Space”, “SWORD Genesis”, and “SWORD – The Darkness and the Light”.
