Many believe Edward van Halen deserves the title of "Best Rock Guitarist of All Time" because of his truly impressive virtuoso "pyrotechnics," which he always managed to present quite impressively in live performances. However, I would attribute that title to another artist: Jeff Beck. For me, a unique musician whom no one has dared or been able to copy so far...which is why there are countless van Halen copycats. His stylistic range was enormous; he mastered everything from jazz, rock, and blues to his own unique musical gems, which are incredibly soulful. While van Halen celebrated solid craftsmanship that was also pleasing to the eye, Beck relied on emotion, on exploring every single note.
