Well ... it looks like it could be a plausible scene from some world -- nothing strangely magical or supernatural -- so I'd have no problem calling it sci-fi.
I assume that bird-horse is an experienced hopper; if not, they might both perish in mud.
Well, he has some really big feet, so they might work.
