Its been a while since I rendered a mythological subject, so I thought I'd return to a subject a I explored a couple of years ago, relating to protector goddesses. The original series was about protectors of nature, for this offering I turn to something perhaps more appropriate for the times we find ourselves in, where the world order seems to have devolved to random acts of bullying and aggressive self-aggrandisement. So....here is Ratri, Vedic representation of night (though she may also be familiar to some from some well-known fantasy RPGs, due to some egregious cultural appropriation by certain game developers). Unlike in many western belief systems, night/darkness has fewer negative connotations in Vedic and Hindu traditions, with Ratri granting the blessing of rest to all beings and protecting/guiding individuals through literal and metaphorical darkness. #hidu #veda #darkness #night #godess #
