Description
Meg, daughter of the Miller Hamo of the village of Middle Teyford, ran away from home to escape having to marry Osric Swineherd, who was a decent enough fellow to be sure, but thirty years Meg's senior, as well as somewhat simple. Meg traveled far and wide, having many adventure, and wound up saving all of England from a French invasion. As a reward, the king granted Meg's request and issued a decree that no one, be they high or low, was to marry Meg unless she herself wished to marry them.
In the end Meg married Robert, a tinsmith she had befriended during her adventures. They lived happily together, raising many healthy children and grandchildren. After Meg died, the king erected a statue in her honor in the village square of Middle Teyford.
