Description
The kilometer-long alien ship was impressive and could already be seen from low orbit as it silently hovered near the colony center.
With the aid of a language translator Captain Flynt was introduced to the 3 Vellari representatives as a diplomat of the Earth Federation. After formal greetings everyone was led to the main meeting hall where Flynt was soon engaged in a deep conversation.
He was quite impressed an pleased with the exchange and just as he was about to arrange an official meeting with the Federation, Dorothy interrupted:
"Captain, may I chat with them for a moment?"
Flynt agreed, and Dorothy began the conversation with some unusual and unorthodox questions and comments, as if having a casual chat with a friend, while Polaris listened in.
By the time Dorothy was done, Flynt was already annoyed, but before he could express his objections Dorothy slowly pulled him away to a private area and spoke softly, "Flynt, listen carefully -- these Vellari are bad news, I mean really bad! I wouldn't trust them for a second. We should get out of here, and fast!"
Flynt frowned in surprise and glanced at Polaris.
"Captain, I agree," said Polaris, "Dorothy is correct, she even managed to decrypt some of their transmissions; they are probing every corner to learn of our weaknesses. You should act normally - play along and politely excuse yourself without raising suspicion. If they catch on we may not survive -- but the final decision is up to you."

oh look, the three wise men
I suppose 'wise' might be accurate if you apply it to their own selfish interests; but then again, if it leads to their own destruction then not so wise.
Guess who's coming to dinner? Nice scene and story.
Thank you, Poser:)
Nice ship as usual. Good image, well done. - Bob
Thanks, Bob.
And that ship is just one of their landing pods.
Gotta watch those smooth-talkers - no matter where they're from...
Really outstanding work on this epic scene!
Thanks, Rod.
I spent way too much time on this one than I wanted.
I'm pretty sure this is just a case of presumptive profiling. As humans we have been indoctrinated via our media and culture into believing that anyone in black authoritarian outfits, with heads akin to those of franchise movie monsters, flying around in kilometer long space vehicles that are black and bristling with weapons are somehow not to be trusted when clearly they are just victims of humanities cultural troupes. Honestly it looks to me like they are about to start harmonizing a chorus of "Mr. Sandman" at any moment. Captain Flynt and his paranoid crew should be ashamed to call themselves explorers and receive a formal reprimanded for their narrow view of off-world cultures.
Yes, I would completely agree with you under typical conditions in our stupid world today, however -- in this situation Captain Flynt, who is human, has already fallen for the alien propaganda and is about to open the door for them similar to how natives trusted the Spanish invaders. Meanwhile, neither Dorothy nor Polaris are human, which is why Flynt chose them as a backup, and they have already picked up and decrypted enough alien transmissions to indicate extreme danger.
But we shall see how things turn out ... sooner or later:-)
