Hello dear friends,
This afternoon I opened a message about the results of the Halloween photography challenge, and to my utter surprise, I read that this image won first prize.
I hadn’t yet posted this entry to my gallery, so here it is.
Thank you very much for your vote; it’s an extra surprise since this entry was totally anonymous.
Here’s the text I wrote to accompany it:
The Haunted Dolls’ Vigil
The Haunted Dolls’ Vigil Six porcelain faces stare out into the darkness, their eyes wide with silent terror.
Each doll bears a single flickering flame atop its head, casting eerie shadows that dance across their frozen expressions.
On this Halloween night, they seem to be watching, waiting. What have they seen in the creeping darkness that has left them so petrified?
And what sinister force lights the flames that burn without melting wax?
As the night deepens, the air thickens with an unsettling silence... something is coming, and the dolls know it.
Knowing that for many of my friends, another outcome of much greater importance is unfolding.
I wish you peace with it, however you may feel about it.

Thank you, Bob. Lol about the dolls, it are objects on a kind of market/show (at a garden centre in The Netherlands) with all very old things, an event made by an artist I know; you couldn't think of it, it was all there. But I also worked with P.S.P. , and a homemade filter.

oh, this is terrific, Jacomina. It has a whole "story" inside it. Your description captures the feeling of those faces perfectly. And you have ghost-like faces looking at the dolls, from the wall behind them-----as if they were the ancestors of these dolls, returned for the "day of the dead," to haunt their descendants. Also, the faces in the background are framed, and there's mist around them. And the two faces on the left (top) are like clown faces---like the ghosts of ancient clowns, returned for reasons we cannot know...
The lineup of dolls is terrifying: They're all frozen in fear, their eyes wide open. And your light makes their porcelain seem so pale and bright, while their red cheeks look smudged and soiled by the world.
The lace is a fine contrast---both on the dolls, and the lace in front of them (and behind them). And that trunk/that large suitcase: (koffer/kofferbak?): What's in it? Why is it half-covered? I love the mystery of it.
This deserved to win, Jacomina! It's really unusual---instead of creating the usual Halloween images (allerheiligen?), you've created these strange dolls, who are candles for some unexplained light, lined up as if they are about to be questioned or taken away. Very creative image. Prachtig! It's wonderful.

Oh my good goodness . CONGRAULATIONS so very well deserved. Reall has a creepy feel . But still them lol. Really creepy to see an updated one of their faces melting down as the aged. Great imagination . Oh my good you are so talented.
