Another species from my new Barbet set. The Versicolored Barbet ranges from east of the Andes from northern Peru to northern Bolivia in South America. While this species, has a whole, is not globally threatened, two subspecies (Races steerii and glaucogularis), are considered "Near Threatened" due to habitat destruction (particularly tree removal). Diverse fruits and their seeds make up about 80% of diet. It will take beetles and other arthropods. It specializes in foraging on dried leaf clusters. They are most often encountered alone or in pairs, less frequently in the company of mixed-species feeding flocks.
