As always, I enjoyed an introduction to Gerrit Dou. I am becoming much more literate with regard to classical art as a result of following you, my dear. I love the visual joke of the girl in the painting looking over the guard's shoulder as he reads. I think it is a charming idea that her candle illuminates his reading... art often illuminates the world! Thanks for sharing, this one was quite amusing in a warm, affectionate way. =)

modestly, I am satisfied when one of my images releases a little poetry with so little means and so much restraint. I love the drawings of Sempé, who was a genius at that.
