Description

"My colleagues... oh, they sit in front of the piano and I'm sure they think, 'Now I, the Virtuoso, will put *my* music into this lifeless instrument'. Well, when I sit down in front of the keyboard, I don't put anything in it. I take the music *out* of it." (Glenn Gould, interview with Bruno Montsaingeon - translated from Italian by myself, so if it's inaccurate the blame is all mine.) *** Hi everybody. This is my hommage to Glenn Gould, who in my opinion was the greatest pianist ever. His music (specially his interpretations of Bach and Beethoven) have enligthened my life and my work since I was 14. He stopped giving public performances back in 1964, when he was only 32, and he spent the rest of his career in the recording studios: that's why I tried to depict him in this environment. He hated the sustain pedal, so he used to take off his right shoe to better "feel" the lever and apply the slightest pressure possible. He died in Canada, his homeland, in 1982. *** Info/credits: Various objects downloaded from 3Dcaf

Overall very nice work. I'm not sure about the microphone on the piano though. Maybe some downsizing in scale and adition of a slight texture as to not take away from the focal point of your work.

Thanx for the comments, guys! For Z_Shadow: I know, but the sound engineers oversized the padded ends of the microphone because Glenn Gould was unable to stop singing (very badly!) while he was recording: but, despite all their efforts, you can hear his out-of-tune hummings in almost every track. That's for the size: for the texture, I think you have a point, thanks a lot. __ Also, I was unable to find a Steinway Grand model, :-( so I've slightly adapted another one to have more resemblance to the piano Gould used (a Steinway C31 Grand).

Complimenti!

Beautiful work Stefano. I specially like the banking wich gives the whole scene something dynamic that would have lacke it otherwise.

Wow. Stefano! Youv'e really outdone yourself this time. I love every bit of it. I especially love that one shoe off deal. That 6 hours of render really paid off. The colors and the atmospher are perfect. The frame really adds to the classiness. Excellent work!

Fantastic image. If you haven't already, you might want to track down a copy of the movie "32 Short Films About Glenn Gould." It's a great biography of Gould.

What a strange coincidence...I just spent a week modeling a steinway'ish' piano for a picture I am working on, using a model C as a guide. hehe. Beautiful work here. The lighting is fantastic! What a wonderful tribute!

I had to go back and look at this again. I think that it is not only the composition that so strongly allures the eye, but the atmosphere and the banking angle you put on the camera. Again, magnificent work!
