Here's a preview of the second of my six new tarantulas... The Bornean Neon Blue-leg Tarantula is found in Southeastern Asia (state of Sarawak in Malaysia). It needs warm weather to survive; temperatures usually range between 79°F to 84°F at nighttime and 86°F to 95°F during the day. Small invertebrates such as ants and beetles. Insects are their primary source of food. They are moderately aggressive and do not pose a threat to humans. If they do bite, the bite is extremely painful. These spiders are “old world” so they don’t have urticating hairs. Contrary to most sexual dimorphism in the animal and insects worlds, it's the female, that is the showy one. The female has electric-blue legs and a creamy toffee body. Males are smaller, have a creamier body and don’t have the blue legs that females are so well known for. Their leg span is 12 cm (5 in) in length. This species was first described by R. Gabriel and D. Sherwood in 2019. An uproar followed because the two expired specimens they used may have been collected illegally. It species is protected under the international “Convention on International Trade of Endangered Species” rules (very rare, being forbidden to capture or import from their places of origin).
