Hum, hum, TM. These are roman-catholic chalices for the hosties. They believe they are turned into the flesh and blood of christ during the mass. (I am to, but dont believe that: "Burn him!") Despite Your great and valuable approach to document these artefacts: No coconut-cups! Ts. ts.ts. You remember Danny Kaye: " The chalice from the palace ..." :D
Heh, 'cups' may be a bit of an overly generic term, but they are carved from coconuts! :) Then gilded in gold. I believe these ones are from 16th century, Germany
