Description

Yesterday I was feeling a little down. I lost my father back when I was still in high school it I would have been his birthday if he was still alive. One of my coworkers whom I known before I started working at current job saw me, probably noticed my mood and she quoted some lines from the poem "Hey Black Child". For some reason it set off a spark in my head and I thought of one my characters when I heard the words. Benjamin or Benji represents not just me in youth but all the young boys I've known through family, friends or when I briefly taught art at summer program. That youthful energy the optimism, the feeling you could be or do anything. So, I did this simple image and added an excerpt from the poem by Useni Eugene Perkins a fellow Chicagoan.

Nicely done, I know the feeling. I lost my Dad in 2019 from A.L.S. I took care of him from 2015 till he could no longer be at home. I'm grateful for all he had done for me. I re watched Superman Returns the other day and the phrase: "The Son becomes the father and the father becomes the son." really hit me. Great job.

Thanks, poser4me. Good fathers always leave a lasting impression even when they're gone. It's good that you were there him when he needed you.

I have so many wonderful memories of those days hanging out with my dad. Fixing the car, going fishing, all those great memories.

And yes - any kid wherever they live, and no matter the color of this leathery covering we all wear, should have the opportunity to be what they can be. This is wonderful!

Hope you are feeling better. It's been many years since my father died and he lived to be a ripe old age; nevertheless, I still miss him.

Thank you for introducing me to the poem, it's lovely. The picture is a charming envisioning of the sentiment expressed in the poem and looks very nice at full resolution. Thanks for sharing, my dear.

Thanks Molly it's never easy losing a loved but just thinking about my father on his birthday can give me a sullen mood. But thinking about this poem and my character really helped me brighten my day. I'm glad you liked the poem and the visual I got from it. 😊 -Randy
