Böhm's Bee-eater it is found in the southeastern portion of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, southwestern Tanzania and northern and central Zambia, with a disjunct population in eastern Tanzania and central and southern Malawi, and adjacent Mozambique.
As with most bee-eaters, honeybees and many other hymenopterans are their preferred prey. They will take beetles, grasshoppers, butterflies, cicadas, "true" bugs, flies and flightless ants, if no bees are available. Stinging insects are taken back to the prey where the bee-eater rubs off the stinger to devenomize its prey.
What makes this bee-eater unique is the shape on the two central tail feather (streamers) which have club-shaped tips. This species appears to have stable population numbers however the conversion of their habitat to farming lands is a concern.
