My brother was inspired by some old art he came across by Alvim Correa, born in Brazil, who created a number of illustrations for H.G. Wells' "War of the Worlds". The original story was written in 1898 and while in Belgium in 1900 Alvim read the book and was so inspired he drew a number of pictures. Given the close proximity to Wells in London, he went to the man himself to show him the pictures. Wells was so impressed that he offered the man a chance to illustrate a special illustrated edition of the story. There were only 500 copies made, all signed, and Alvim's original art was held in the family until 2015 when it was auctioned off for possibly five hundred thousand dollars. Anyway, my brother went about building a model inspired by the artist and the story and ended up making three models all made from junk and random parts around the house. The only thing he bought were rods for the legs. The flashlights for the laser guns were old gifts from a family friend. Three boys, three flashlights with blinking warning lights etc. Using his photos, I photoshopped the background away and used AI to make an early 20th century setting and placed the model(s) into the images. I made about 10 images of streets and atmosphere and used PS to layer and composite everything. The first 2 are his model and AI, number 3 is a warehouse he made from cintra and then I setup in PS with some more AI. Image 4 is his photo of the machine with some lighting set up in our sunroom.
