From my upcoming "Turtles of the World" add-on set...
The bog turtle is the smallest turtle in North America and is under 4 inches long. It is native only to the eastern United States, congregating in colonies that often consist of fewer than 20 individuals. They prefer calcareous wetlands (areas containing lime), including meadows, bogs, marshes, and spring seeps, that have both wet and dry regions.
It is critically endangered and is protected under the United States Federal Endangered Species Act. Changes to the bog turtle's habitat have resulted in the disappearance of 80 percent of the colonies that existed 30 years ago. Because of the turtle's rarity, it is also in danger of illegal collection, often for the worldwide pet trade. Despite these regulations prohibiting their collection, barter, or export, bog turtles are commonly taken by poachers. Road traffic has also led to declines. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has a plan for the recovery of the northern population.

Fabulous job! I love your work and the information you give on each species. It's good for someone to open our eyes to the more vulnerable inhabitants of this world.
..great realistic scene
almost everyday on my way to go walk, I see animals that were needlessly killed by vehicles, because the owners did not keep them safe. there is a huge construction project not far from my home and the habitat of 100's of animals that left looking for shelter/food.

It's very sad... 1 in 5 species (all flora and fauna) on the planet are on the brink of extinction. If we don't change our ways right now, by 2050, it's projected to be 1 in 2.
