Ecrire ne la protégeait en rien. La fatigue de ses doigts accumulée par l’hallali de la frappe sur sa machine à écrire, l’avait laissée pantelante. Créer, c’était toujours se mettre en danger ; petite fille elle le savait déjà, quand il lui fallait mettre des mots sur l’injustice du destin. Le bruit mat et sec des touches du clavier résonnait comme autant de coups de fusil, et c’était des nuées d’idées à l’encre noire qui envahissaient son espace. Les corrections du crayon atténuaient à peine le cri des corbeaux dans sa tête.

Writing did nothing to protect her. The fatigue of her fingers accumulated by the hallali of typing on her typewriter had left her panting. To create was always to put oneself in danger; as a little girl she already knew it, when she had to put words to the injustice of fate. The dry, dull sound of keyboard keys sounded like gunshots, and clouds of black-inked ideas flooded her space. The pencil corrections barely dampened the cry of the crows in her head.

Yep I can see some of my darker thoughts having the same shape, darting out of the room and - hopefully - haunting those I was thinking of. (There is also a white dove version, but lately they seem to relieve themselves passing the windowsill, so they have been banned for now...) chuckles madly
