The St. Vincent Amazon is considered one of the most beautiful parrot species in the world and is endemic to St. Vincent Island (in the Lesser Antilles). This parrot is dependent on mature moist forest, with some preference for lower elevations where larger trees and hence more nest-sites exist. It will occasionally wandering into cultivated areas. It is an endangered species, but appears to be recovering thanks to recently placed conservation protections. There are 250-999 birds mature adults left. Habitat loss and hunting brought the St. Vincent Parrot to a precarious situation by the early 1980s, but determined conservation and law enforcement action since then has led to a steady population increase. With increasing conservation activity thereafter, censuses have suggested a steady population increase, from 370–470 in 1982, 440–500 in 1988, to around 800 in 1994. They eat fruit and/or seeds mostyly from Pouteria and Dacryodes. While sexes are alike in appearance, this Amazon Parrot has two plumage morphs, a yellow-brown variant, which is much the commoner, and a green one. The green morph tends to lack much of the orange, with dull green upper parts and whitish-blue face.
