Description
In this scene sequel to "Initial Encounter" a German pilot and his wingman return from a patrol to discover an unusual airship emerging from a bank of cloud, a ridiculous contrivance more easily attributed to Jules Verne than the Tommies. What in Hell was it, and how had it crossed the lines undetected?
Orders require him to shoot down any unidentifiable or unauthorized aircraft. The pilot charges his guns, intent on igniting the envelope, but his approach draws no defensive fire from the gondola. Checking his fire, he banks and turns to take a better look.
When he slips alongside, a woman emerges from the gondola. The pilot raises his googles for a better look. Striking despite her refugee attire, she has dark hair and challenging bright eyes. How is she controlling the airship? The Tommies would never send a woman into contested airspace in such a machine, but why would this one risk a sky full of aircraft looking for something to kill? She is alone and appears unarmed, but she could be a lunatic with her own agenda and bombs in the gondola. Boistrancourt is but ten kilometers west.
The pilot points toward his aerodrome and signals the woman to land her machine. She nods, and enters the gondola. The airship's rudder turns as the pilot accelerates to avoid a stall. If his intuition is correct and the anti-aircraft gunners aren't complete idiots, they'll be an interesting guest at mess. If he is wrong, he'll be in the trenches or a noose.
I didn't get the desired drama out of the HDRI on account of fireflies but overall it conveys. The airship is a gem - pure steampunk. The wingman's D.VA is finished in Hans von Hippel's scheme from Jasta 5...

Von Hippel is an interesting person, survived the Great War and stayed in the Army after the war. Became an Acrobatic pilot between the wars and flew transports during the Second War. This is Honorable.

Again, WOW! Story, now from the point of the German Fighter Pilot, continues to be great. I have to say that Steampunk Airship is really lovely! Wherever did you get such a thing? Depending on the origin there is always a slim chance I could convert it for Poser... O.O

Thanks and my pleasure Molly - the steamship is available in DAZ as "Steampunk Hot Air Balloon" by Forbiddenwhispers and Poser is cited as compatible. It's a beast at 415mb with lots of texture subdivisions so you can play with materials. I had to have the aluminum airscrews...
