Caption's Log: September 3rd (continued) After walking perhaps another mile or so, we entered an expansive clearing with rock walls and small cliffs. Appearing on the top of the rock cliffs were at least some of the native men that had otherwise been so elusive. Each had a weapon of some kind, and they were certainly dressed to intimidate. They made no sound, standing instead like statues. There was no way to tell how many others were hidden among the rocks. In nearly a whisper, I quietly cautioned the crew to not appear in any way aggressive. We walked swiftly by the cliffs with hardly a glance upward. In a few yards we were once again in the dense forest. Not uttering a word, we all began to run down the trail hoping to get far away from danger. When we all had to stop running to catch our breath we saw that no one followed us. We got back to our shoreline camp just as the sun was setting. I called the entire crew around and told them of our harrowing experience. I did not have to tell them how imperative it was to get the final repairs done tonight.
