Scandalous! But a great picture. : )

scandal is a matter of context and society. Let's just say that here Chardin's model meets Fragonard's.

I'm not familiar with the artwork that inspired this, but I certainly can appreciate the subject matter! Beautiful portrait of two women sharing such a sweet moment :-)

Chardin was famous for his still lifes and some genre scenes. this strawberry dish is making headlines in auction rooms. I transposed the scene into the gallant universe of Fragonard, but without excessive sensuality.

I looked up Jean Siméon Chardin as is my usual practice and was rewarded with some beautiful, luminous, very realistic images. I'm with perpetualrevision about the beauty of the erotic moment between the maids which (to me eye) resembled some of the human subjects of Chardin.
As always thank you for sharing and for stimulating my continuing my expansion of art appreciation. =)

What I like in Chardin's painting, and especially in his still lifes, is the feeling of being able to feel the air between things. I associated the liveliness of the red strawberries with a restrained but very real sensuality, like the presence of fruit in his painting.

Another excellent art class, and looking at the picture those two are in for a lot of fun.

Chardin?
