History:
Minotaur, Greek Minotauros (“Minos’s Bull”), in Greek mythology, a fabulous monster of Crete that had the body of a man and the head of a bull. It was the offspring of Pasiphae, the wife of Minos, and a snow-white bull sent to Minos by the god Poseidon for sacrifice.
Minos, instead of sacrificing it, kept it alive; Poseidon as a punishment made Pasiphae fall in love with it. Her child by the bull was shut up in the Labyrinth created for Minos by Daedalus. A son of Minos, Androgeos, was later killed by the Athenians; to avenge his death, Minos demanded that seven Athenian youths and seven maidens should be sent every ninth year (or, according to another version, every year) to be devoured by the Minotaur.
When the third time of sacrifice came, the Athenian hero Theseus volunteered to go, and, with the help of Ariadne, daughter of Minos and Pasiphae, he killed the monster and ended the tribute.
PS. A lot of years ago, when I was on my holiday in Creta (Heraklion), I also visited these impressive ruins of Knosos.

A good rendition of the story. What a scary thing to do and have to deal with. Someone should always rescue the ladies.
And i though living in the time of Mr. Monster 'Trump' was bad. Had he of won a 2nd term I have little doubt he might have proclaimed sacrifice to himself, Christian. This is a lovely piece and as a plus... a look into mythology which is always fun.
When there was 'mythology' in the history class in high school, I always paid particular attention!

Hallo liebe Ute, na Du warst ja fleißig. So viele wunderschöne neue Bilder. Da werde ich ja lange brauchen, um mich da durchzuarbeiten - lach. Ich hatte leider sehr viel zu tun und war die letzte Zeit fast gar nicht am PC. Na ja, ich kann nun wieder öfter vorbeischauen. Hoffentlich bist Du gesund ins neue Jahr gekommen!?
