Here's another render from my updated Songbird ReMix Hummingbirds v1. In this image, a couple calliope hummingbirds feed on Penstemon spectablis (showy penstemon). The calliope hummingbird summers in the Pacific Northwest from Northern California to British Columbia. It winters in Southern Mexico to Central America; normally wintering from Sinaloa and Durango south to Oaxaca. It is found in open montane foresw, mountain meadows, willow and alder thickets while in migration and, in winter, they are also found in chaparral, lowland brushy areas, deserts and semi-desert regions. It generally inhabits cool environments, 0.5-25°C during nesting season, 0-24°C during migratory stops in Colorado, and 0-25°C wintering in Mexico and Arizona. The flower species it favors include typical red-tubular “hummingbird flowers” as well as wide variety of yellow, white, blue, and purple flowers. The male calliope is distinctive in that its gorget is divided into separate magenta-red rays, These rays can be elevated in elegant star-burst display against white background of throat. There are about 1,000,000 mature individuals in their population which has been stable for the last 40 years.
