I wish these cicadas had a more exciting name than the "Large Brown Cicada", perhaps "aburazemi" (アブラゼミ) in Japanese means something more flashy in translation. I chose them for inclusion in my "Cicadas" set because of their brown and wing opaque wings, which is unusual in cicadas. Their boring names, "Large Brown Cicadas", describes them well with their brownish wings and undersides, and they are big bugs-- the fore wing measures 75 mm (3 inches in length). They are found across East Asia (including Japan, the Korean Peninsula, and China) and are generally along streams and rivers in more arid areas. They emerge yearly from April to July with the height being in June. Their median life cycle from egg to natural adult death is around three years. The males make a loud chirping that ends with a click caused by a flick of the wings. Rendered in Iray without any post work.
