One of the images of my womens day project (a bit more longterm than just one day). I let them voice what they have to face day by day and what they want. Due to covid 19 the practice to cut off female genitals has spread again. People who had tried to explain and teach in the villages could not go there anymore and could not help. Young girls get cut with primitive or barely desinfected/sterilised sharp "equipment" and are left bleading. Some die due to infections or bleading. Most have to endure pain for their complete rest of their life. They never ever can enjoy sex or can feel it (except pain). This is not a tradition - this is a crime. I have seen the opening talk of a refugee at the c3 congress talking about gates communities and also about treatment in african countries. It just breaks your heart and hurts listening to her words. Or a simple documentation about a young women now living in germany. She will never have the life most of us have... always the pain. Always something taken from her.
