Pam: 'Back from my follow-up exam, doc says all looks good so far with my recovery from the emergency appendectomy. For those of you who are interested these are my surgical wounds here. Why the laparoscopic incision is on the right, it's because in appendectomies the surgeon has to reach laterally across the abdomen in order to grasp, cut and remove the appendix and bring it across and out. The surgeon inflates the abdomen a little bit in order to create some space that will facilitate the extraction of the appendix. The central-abdominal incision was also needed in the procedure in order to facilitate a cleanup of the lower abdominal cavity and extract all the deadly toxins that had leaked out of my appendix after it had burst inside me. I am told by the doctors I'm very fortunate the immediate, short-term damage and erosion of any internal, lower-abdominal organs caused by the toxins was minimal.
