Why is Venice called the Serenissima?
Once that of Venice was one of the four maritime republics: the institutions of his government were divided on several levels, the highest represented by the Doge.
He was the highest political order and embodied the glory and authority of the Republic. However, his powers were limited to leading the army and the fleet to war; in fact, full sovereignty resided in the Greater Council, the fundamental organ of the state.
Although the Doge played a minor role compared to the other organizations of the Republic, he had been given the nickname "serenissimo"
That's why Venice has always been nicknamed the "Serenissima"

It may not be the intent, but there is a strong feel of the music hall about this (in a nice way), as though she is about to burst out into song and get the all singing along
