I can’t recall exactly when I came up with the idea for this scene but I do know that I started putting the idea together back in 2018 but couldn’t get it to look the way I wanted so it became another abandoned scene file on my hard drive. The other day I decided to give this conceptual scene another try and today, after a lot of rendering and experimenting with various Superfly materials, I finally finished it. Here we see that the fantasy mermaid’s beautiful realm has been overtaken by the trash of reality.

Phantastic idea and realisation. Yeah there are many abandoned scenes on my harddrive as well and I know the moment when a scene after a prolonged working on it desn‘t come out as expected. And some times it‘s really the best to put it aside and maybe come back to it later. In your case here it was worth it to pick it up again, because the result is absolutely great now.

Great image! You can almost smell the waste and polluted water. It's a pity that aquatic animals don't have facial expressions like this poor mermaid, it might have helped humanity rethink its environmental abuse.
