Yeah, I know, what a geeky thing to say. Still, Mare Orientale _is_ my favourite Lunar crater. It has triple ridged rings at 480km, 620km and 910km in diameter where the impact rippled the Lunar crust. Although the area has yet to be sampled by manned or unmanned spacecraft it is thought that the crater is one of the youngest major impact craters on the moon at a little less than three billion years old. It is only seen edge on from Earth as it extends over the outer edge of the moon as seen from Earth. This image was created in Blender using the NASA free texture and bump maps at 16,384x8192.
