Within a blue green fantasy.
Sea Turtle Garden prose by Carol Cavalaris.
Escape to a tropical wonderland far beneath the sea, with a gathering of sea turtles growing like a garden within a blue green shell fantasy. This mixed media artwork was created using a combination of painting with alcohol ink on yupo paper and in Photoshop. From my Beauty In Nature as well as Organica Collection.
After watching the impeachment hearings, swimming with the turtles seems like a good place to be. :o)

(I'm happy to see that I commented on a few of the intervening paintings---I thought I'd not gotten to them...maybe your intermittency in your gallery makes me think I've missed lots of your work ((I understand your on-and-off posting here, I'm not complaining, and wouldn't be right if I did, since I'm on-and-off here as well))...Regardless, I still have images I haven't commented on, so here I am again...)
I'd know this is your alcohol painting right away. The way the ink meanders, bunches up, forms boundaries, bubbles, blurbs and so on. And the way it melds and washes into itself: Watercolors wash into themselves, but not the way alc. inks do: There appears to be greater resistance in the 'collision' of inks, they form stronger boundaries. And you go with those boundaries, you create them, go with them, play with them, talk to them...this is a pulsing bulging gurgling mass of undersea energies, where the surrounding is as vital as the turtles themselves; and where the surrounding also blossoms like flowers-made-of-stone. The right-side background is like exotic minerals, translucent and like stained glass. And you've used the blurbs as cells of a great underwater sea-wall, of glowing minerals and jewels. Kind of the essence of underwater illumination. And the bubbles are natural with all these forms---they fit right in. The lower portion of the right side is in beautiful deep-sea blues, as contrast to all those yellow-tinted greens. (I realize this is a sea garden, and not the bottom of the ocean; but you do get deep-sea colors here...which is part of your way with deep 'anything': Meaning that, in areas which are "underneath" or "deep" in your art, you tend to color and shape them in a deep-soul way...so that a deep area is a metaphor for the inner soul. And that inner soul, in your vision, is illumined and bejeweled. Love those forms---like geodes or translucent stained glass.
The turtles are glorious---they too have the translucence of the background, but also great color morphs. Also, they have the usual markings that turtles have, but you bring out the bright lines between the markings on their shell, skin, etc (ie, the 'veins' between the shapes on their feet and heads): Those 'veins' are white or yellow, etc, and you bring out their brightness to give a sense not only of contrast, but of light itself. I hope I said that well enough...(it's not easy to put all this into words...)
And so many positions in these turtles: The top right one is coming right at us---really great stuff: He's not threatening, but he takes us right out of the painting and heads right for our heads. Love the perspectives and angles you gave us, in the layout of these turtles. (They're are having a great time!) And, for all their separation, they blend into the background beautifully. This is a cornucopia of underwater jewel-like hues and forms; and since you have no sky (or upper world), it's an intense cloistered shimmering underwater fairy kingdom, with great hues, blends, forms and beautiful creatures. And you have the grain that alcohol inks afford, which I love. A glorious piece. And that turtle coming towards us---I want to welcome him to my living room, and hope he's in a good mood. He seems pretty determined! Beautiful work, Carol.

I really did love being underwater and in this wild world with the turtles. The alcohol inks take me to new places with my art and do let me explore new dimensions. It is always a journey of discovery. This piece just kind of kept evolving and was a labor of love. Unlike some of my art, that can drain me to the depths of my being, this one was exhillerating. Maybe it was the bright colors, and the organic shapes that carried me into this world. I do know it was a total escape from all that was going on in 'real life', and when it was finished I didn't want to leave this undersea fantasy garden. Turtles aren't the only ones who like to tuck their heads into their shells ... artists bury themselves in their vision and imaginings, and sometimes, as with this work, it is a very fun place to be. I'm so glad this image could take you there with me for a little while. :)
