Description

This image follows on from the previous 'Bullseye On Janice'. Thursday detentions were usually supervised by Mrs O'Rourke. She made all us naughty lads sit at the front desks and said in her Stevie Nicks voice 'So I can keep a close eye on you lot'.....and inevitably she ended up sat on the front desk dictating geography notes while crossing and uncrossing her legs.....which I soon became convinced was a deliberate distraction on her part. Babs (that's Mrs O'Rourke) always ended with a game.......whoever could name the capital city of the country she pointed to on the globe was allowed to leave detention early. Every detention ended with her saying something to me along the lines 'You're the last one again Harris which is amazing seeing as you are top of your year in geography.......and as for saying Paris is the capital of the USA..... oh my days'. One afternoon as I prepared to follow my mates out she gave me a big wink and ever so slowly uncrossed her legs while telling me that in years to come I would probably have some happy memories of my time at Mill Lane School.......how right Bab's was.......I never forgot Thursday detentions......... Alas Bab’s O’Rourke left Mill Lane suddenly half way through my fifth year. It transpired that the deputy heads wife walked in on them ‘going at it' in her matrimonial bed……oh so embarrassing……….. Some ten years later I bumped (literally) into Mrs O’Rourke at the airport and explained that I was flying to the US on business.  Bab’s laughed and putting her arm around me asked if I was by any chance flying to Paris.....

Fantastic! At least she didn't have any trouble with the trouble makers in her detention room. Great story.

Sigh In a Stevie Nicks voice, no less.... Where was I during these detentions? Ours were always with the Gym Coach - who had ZERO sense of humor - or style...

Really well done, my friend!

I sadly have to say that the person who supervised us when in detention was ALWAYS a (young) man...I had no chance to take a look at...well...you know what I mean. Back in 1963 (yes, I know !) I was so naughty that I remained stuck from September until December...my mother was very upset. Great image and funny story.

Then I asked the teacher why can't globe makers get the globe straight- why do they always mess it up by giving it to the school cockeyed like that. Every one of them. Teacher couldn't help but snicker a bit but I didn't care. Teacher in this render could probably offer a better, more logical explanation, methinks.

If I'd had Babs 0'Rourke in my day, detention would have been the best attended class though I dad have the lovely Miss XXXX who unwittingly remained uncrossed for considerable lengths of time. She was the only teacher who drove a Porsche...
