Description

My inner aviation geek noticed that the runway on PW Design's Airport Island is about 1500m long, which at a stretch, is the barest minimum for narrow-body jets like the B737 and A320 - and that's just with a dry runway. Just for fun, I used some primitives & kitbashing to reclaim some land and double its length, making it more realistic for jumbo jets. With the extra passengers coming in, the airport city might need to add a few extra hotel rooms though, but that's for another discussion. I read about some real world examples while doing this: - During the early 1980s, Madeira Airport extended its runway from such a length after a serious overshoot accident in 1977. - Princess Juliana Airport in St Maartens is a bit longer but is right next to beaches where tourists often watch the landings. - Hong Kong's former Kai Tak Airport always guaranteed memorable landings, including the ones my father experienced on business trips there. Very well done! Hopefully this will stop the wet landings!
