Le château de Villandraut, palais forteresse symbole de la puissance de la famille de Got, se présente comme une œuvre complète et homogène, construit de 1305 à 1314, malgré les diverses modifications qu’il a subies et son état actuel de ruine. L'édifice assurait trois fonctions principales qui caractérisent les châteaux médiévaux : défense, habitat et reflet de la puissance d’une famille.
Villandraut Castle, a fortress palace symbolizing the power of the Got family, is a complete and homogeneous work, built from 1305 to 1314, despite the various modifications it has undergone and its current state of ruin. The building had three main functions that characterize medieval castles: defence, habitat and reflection of a family's power.

Il fallait s'assurer de ne pas offenser un membre de cette famille; autrement, on risque de terminer ses jours dans un cachot. La liberté d'expression n'existait pas, à cette époque. J'ai déjà des cauchemars!
