Another old file I dug up, originally rendered in 2001 in Bryce 3.1 on a 90MHz Mac, it was at 832x624 and took an age to render. This took minutes to render with better lighting in Bryce 7 Pro(ne to crashes). Progress eh?

Nice one :). 2001 ? You have been doing 3D for a very long time. Your image does show how far the 3D world has come.
I actually started selling 3D models in 1990. I used to make a lot more money at it in those days and I wish things were that bright now :(

I miss Bryce, it's really crashy on my 64 bit machine but I loved the parametric textures and the skies. And the lights were so easy to work with. And the photo terrain editor was fab for modelling :D
If you want to run Bryce you can always look for an old system, and run it with an OS and hardware that can run it with fewer crashes and still more speed than it would have offered when it was new. A while back I got an old PowerMac G5 dual processor machine so I can eventually set up a Bryce workstation running version 5.01, which is far more stable than any of the later versions and uses much less RAM to load and save the same scene.

Yeah, I gave up on Bryce several years ago due to its tendency to crash if I looked at it wrong. Same with Hexagon... I've seen some amazing things done with both.
There's nothing to give a sense of scale; if the sign were about a hundred feet tall, you should be able to fit through.
If it's normal size, maybe there are no spikes until someone breaks the rule and then they spring out. Is that what just happened?
