_______Today, I really felt like posting this capture of the recently restored tower of the cathedral of Freiburg im Breisgau ( Germany ) ; the 116-meter octagonal and tapered tower had been almost totally hidden from view for quite some years and I had even forgotten how beautiful it was, with its steeple that looks like stone lace. The cathedral holds 19 bells, altogether 25 tonnes, making it one of the largest peals in Germany.It is the only Gothic church tower in Germany that was completed in the Middle Ages (1330), and miraculously, has lasted until the present, surviving the bombing raids of November 1944. Freiburg is for me the most beautiful and pleasant city of the Black Forest region facing the Vosges mountains across the borders with France, a city I regularly go to and enjoy visiting with unabated enthusiasm .
