(see...it's an hour and 10 minutes since I started here tonight, and I've only commented on 2 pieces! This is what happens when I comment on true mastery...I'll have to stop after this one ((which'll probably be at an hour and a half)) because of the hour. But I'm gonna try to come back this month, to do more...)

Your poem speaks, eloquently, of receiving a great gift from the roses; and that the hummingbirds are as much symbols of beauty and love as are the roses. There's a communion between them, in your poem and your painting. In full size, this painting's not that big (at least on my Mac, and I have a very large screen), but boy, is is big in feel. You've got all this intense brushwork, all these intense leaf-flames (flames made of painted green leaves), and those leaves (surrounding the flowers) are cut through with such intense veins and vessels and energy lines, and they make the leaves throb, undulate and explode through space. Look at the upper right corner (ha! I'm telling you to look, as if you've never seen this before! go along with me, lol): The greens are met with whites and silvers and pale yellows and (on the right side) reds, and deep greens and near blacks: The contrasts make those leaves like electrified tributaries, even great gorges in a cosmic landscape. The leaves on the top left, on the other hand, are darker: but look at that red splotch---maybe a rose bud to be---and dark furrows, and how the hummingbird's tail blends right into the lines of those leaves. And in the lowest sections, the leaves are darker, more "root"-like---I mean soul-root, something you so often portray in the bottom's of your images: a portrait of the root of the soul itself---and it flows like a huge collection of furled silks. These leaves are relentless, they furl and move and undulate and pulsate with as much energy as the 'stars' of your image (the roses and birds): These roses are blooming against a universe which is incredibly alive.

Then the roses: They're filled with furrows and emergence and submergence; and you use deep reds and purples as well as lighter reds and even pinks (and some stunning whites). Great outlining on these. The flowers poke-out in every direction, as everything in this image is reaching outwards, pulsing outwards into the universe...And those hummingbirds: First, their undersides have the colors of the rainbow; and some are so luminous, one expects them to be red hot to the touch! Their wings are articulate, and the separation of each feather seems like a separate statement. And then, the feathers give them as flowing and electric a feel as the flowers and leaves have, themselves. (Everything's in the same energy stream here...) Great yellows and greens on the upper h.bird, and wonderful purples, greens and whites on the lower. Great use of color here, Carol!

And it's all cropped (so to speak) to let the energies of the piece push up against the frame, as if this is about to burst its frame and fly into the whole world. While, all the while, the rose-center sits in the middle of it, expressing its own intense energies. It sits in the center of an expanding whooshing sea...And, as in the "Woman in the Rose Gown," you have powerful reds against powerful greens: Complementary colors, colliding and making a very pulsing contrast.

What can I say? In a medium-sized piece, you captured a huuuuge world, packed with energies and radiances and communions that take your poem into the stratosphere. A truly powerful piece and inner confluence. Magical, Carol: It's beautiful.

(I have to stop here---yep, it's an hour and 30 minutes, my usual time for 3 images in your gallery!---but I hope to return in the coming weeks. This session was a "rose" session---what I wanted it to be. But I'm aware of the animal paintings you put up a little bit before this. But a pure 'rose' session ain't bad: As symbols of opulence, sensuality, love, wisdom and flow, not a bad subject to concentrate on, in a visit to a great gallery. Now I'm going to rest my eyes and dream of cosmic landscapes...I hope you're doing well, Carol; at least you're not baking as much as half the rest of the world, I assume. I'll get in touch soon...)

Mark, you've done my roses proud with your amazing comments. Thank you so much for taking the time to really look at and think about my work. Your words are very precious to me. I did want to capture the swirling energy of the roses and the hummingbirds, as if they were in a dance together. You saw this, and that pleases me so much. There is a mutual joy and love shared by the hummers and the roses. The actual painting is quite large and can be printed up to 5 feet. But I only post smaller sizes on line. A lot of the detail is lost in the lower resolution and smaller size, but you always get the meaning of my work and that is everything to me. As I have told you before, I think of you when i am creating, saying to myself 'I wonder what Mark will think of this'. I'm so pleased you enjoyed spending time with my roses, and that you are so generous with your response. Your comments about art I have done often give me ideas about new art that is to come.

Love the colors on this piece that shows so much swirling motion. I keep going back to this piece....beautiful!
