the placement on that pure white surface (with pinkish shadows!) makes a museum-like presentation, and it's very effective. Heavy duty story too (the heat this summer should alert the U.S.'s climate denying government just how real it is). A very effective shot; you do very intuitive things with backgrounds.
(And "desiccated newt" reminds me of "chrunchy frog" ((the pythons)), or the ingredients of the witches brew in Macbeth, "Scale of dragon, tooth of wolf, Witches' mummy, maw and gulf...")
