I was thinking they were insulators - cool display!!!

Used to collect them as a youngster up until about 16. I'm amazed I'm still alive since a friend and NE climbed the poles and removed some that we liked. Had a rare saddle like one.

Love the variety of colors in these cool shot Rod. Never néw there were so many colors made. Enjoy that trip and thanks for sharing.

That's some cool looking glass. I went to a crafts village in upstate NY where there were glass blowers and it was an amazing thing to see! Great shot!

I still have two insulators from the seventies that a friend gave me. They are actually my inspiration for the designs I do in Silo 2, my 3D design app. The variety of colors is fascinating.

Well, knowing the guy that owns these..... I can say he's been on a few poles, but not with live wires. Most of these came from auctions and other collectors. Check the prices on some of these in the full-size view.... 😲😨😱

My friend Rod tells me the purple ones are crazy cool. Apparently they start out clear, but age to those lovely lavender colors. I'm sure Tara would have a field day there! What a gorgeous display!

Rod, I'm only back for a few comments in each gallery, so I can't do everything I've missed, not just yet. But I've seen everything (and it's always great when you post photos again). Until you introduced me to these insulators, I had no idea what a following they had. They're such unique looking things. And the colors are so deep. They remind me a little of "Depression Glass". I imagine even newer ones look antiquated, because of the tints and heaviness of the glass. And those repeated threads inside, and the rounded or capped tops. I"m sure you know all kinds of variations, and have sought various types to add to your collection.

Because they're glass, and colored, they feel like stained glass; and they take light through them, which gives them luminescence. Not all collectables can say that for themselves. In this display, they're lit up---in fact, they remind me of some of Warhol's lines up coke bottles (where he paints coke all over the bottle, I mean against gravity and everything). A luminous lineup. And having read about collectors, I can understand how these are sought. I was actually surprised that they didn't go for MORE than $140.00. I mean collectors will pay lots of money. I remember pics of insulators in your home, and what a powerful presence they have there...Beautiful shot, Rod. And I was glad to read that you and Jo got away for a few days. You're surrounded by some of the Midwest's most beautiful land.

I remember my dad's mom always had a collection of these. I found the very interesting to look at when I was young. I still do. :)
