Description
I know this boat is cruising slowly...we are overtaking it in a very large ferry.
Location: San Juan Islands, Washington State, just east of Haro Straight and Vancouver Island, Canada. Great Britain and the United States almost came to blows in 1859 over ownership of these islands. Cooler heads prevailed and both countries agreed to jointly occupy them. The ownership question was finally settled in 1872. The decision was made by an arbitrator,...none other than German Emperor Kaiser Wilhelm I.

Superb capture Bill. God bless.
Fifty-four forty or fight! That was nice of Willy to do that for us although I suspect he just wanted to stick it to his cousins in Britain. Love this shot. Its the type if image that has you imagining yourself on the deck looking forward to a new adventure.
AHHH! This reminds me of the time, when my dad and I were fishing codfish. MAN! did we have a smashing time in Kattegat. In his little fishing boat with a really motor for such, saying PUM! PUM! PUM!. ..LOOOVED IT. Those where the days :D
What a GORGEOUS scene mate. Andrew.
Beautiful scene
What a beautiful scene.
That's such a great ferry ride on a sunny day! We got lucky. This is a great shot, and the wake makes a superb leading line. Terrific work!
I wanted to go into Washington State as I was only a few miles from there on my last trip.
very beautiful area
So serene and peaceful...
There is such a lot of excellent detail in the wake waves, and the colour is a summer reminder!
What a lovely and tranquil photo, Bill! The slow pace of the boat seems to suggest to the rest of us to slow down and enjoy the scenery.
Very nice capture Bill.
ok, tara and andrea mentioned the "wake": I had to look it up! I didn't know what that was. (I thought, what, someone died and there's a ceremony??? like, under the boat???) Yes, the wake gives a real presence to the water; and the details on your waves is scintillating; and you got a perfect lineup of diagonal waves coming toward us. And, in the background, two land masses with the right amount of haze and dissolution---your shot allows the natural decaying power of light to do its thing (you didn't clarify the land or make it artificially sharper, as many of us would do.) Lots of blue here, and it's very inviting and tranquil. Beautiful relaxed shot, Bill.
