Description
This loa, a monument or a tomb of a chief, is the Tu'imaleali'ifano tomb. Tu'imaleali'ifano holds one of the four Tama-a-Paramount chiefly titles in Samoa. The loa was constructed by Germany when it was a colonial power and Western Samoa was one of its colonies. But the material and style used was not the traditional material and style but rather a German type design. It is said that the German government was trying to impose its colonial power over the Samoan chiefs..
The Tu'imaleali'ifano loa is located on the Mulinu'u Peninsula west of Apia and its harbor. When Junior and his wife Angela (my taxi driver) took me there I assumed this was a memorial to fallen German soldiers, and it took me a while to sort things out.
