Description
The creature isn’t some sort of enormous shark or a vicious crocodile. It’s a dinosaur called Spinosaurus. Spinosaurus which means ‘spine lizard’, from these elongated spines.
Spinosaurus lived about a hundred million years ago during the Cretaceous period. It inhabited what is now North Africa’s Sahara region, which at the time featured a large river system.
Spinosaurus was a giant meat-eating dinosaur that grew to lengths of 18 m (60 ft.), weights of between 12 and 20 tonnes.
Spinosaurus is one of if not the, biggest dinosaurs yet discovered. It’s also one of the most distinctive dinos, with a huge sail on its back and long. This was supported by elongated vertebrae (bones that make up the spinal column). These bony spines were at least 1.65 meters (5.4 ft.) long. They would (probably) have been covered with skin.
It sports six-inch-long teeth and inside those jaws, Spinosaurus had widely-spaced, cylindrical teeth. It also had short legs, and flat, paddle-like feet – all of which suggest that it was able to swim, and spent at least some of its time in the water, preying on fish.
Spinosaurus’ skull was long and thin, resembling that of a modern crocodile. It was around 1.5 to 1.75 meters (5 to 5.74 ft.) in length.
Scientists believe that Spinosaurus may have used its sail as a warning signal to intruders. The sight of the sail jutting out of the water would tell others to back off—unless they wanted a fight. You wouldn’t want to mess with this splashy creature:)
With T Rex being up to 12 metres (40 ft.) long, and weighing up to 9.5 tonnes, it was smaller than Spinosaurus. However, T Rex’s huge, powerful jaws and (probably) greater standing height would have made it an even match.

What's truly amazing, though, is how much about this carnivore that was once assumed as fact has lately been called into question, and how much is still being discovered. For more about all types of dinosaurs, see Dinosaur Pictures Gallery
Trés cool! Some researchers suggest that the sail may have helped regulate temperature. If permeated with blood vessels, it might have helped spinosaurus keep cool in hot weather.
The sail might have changed colour for attracting mates - as has been suggested also for Stegosaurus.
"He was a big brute to fight in that last film. I don't know if I want to act with him again. I prefer a movie of my own where I don't have to share my tourist meals with anyone else (yea, not even pteranodons!)" - T.Rex
Well made image. Interesting what those dino experts keep coming up with. Then, after some 10 to15 years, they change the story again. Keep up the good work! :-)
Excellent renders. Though I like the one you put in the comment section more.
