Ah, New Yorkers. But were they really all from New York, or were some from other areas? Would be interesting to see each one's lives and how they all wound up remembered by a plaque like this one.

You bring up an interesting point, T. Rex. I seem to recall reading that the units were not necessarily all FROM a given state but were SPONSORED by the named state. NY, PA, and MA were among the richest states and could afford to sponsor more units. Paying gives one naming rights; maybe there were other perquisits.
